J. Anton Report for August/September of 2007

Posted on October 5, 2007

Oops. Kinda forgot to take care of this last month, so today is a double J. Anton Report for the months of August and September. Banner months, they both were, so let’s dig in, shall we?

On August 4th, I had a good night at work, making a couple hundred bucks bartending at a wedding reception. Not a bad deal all in all. A few days later, I foolishly spent some of that money on getting iLife ‘08. Definitely a sweet update it was. August 10th, I went to ribfest… Mmmmmm. The Aussie place definitely had some good barbecue. And we definitely had a good time watching/laughing at middle-aged white people dancing. That’s a favorite pastime of mine. Oh, and on August 27, I started a tumblog over at Futura Bold Italic. I post the odd video, quote, and link over there so check it out and subscribe. I like it so much that it’s become a wholesale replacement for Twitter, Pownce, and Del.icio.us for me.

September was rife with even more excitement. On September 12th I fulfilled a dream of mine ever since I was a little girl Apple announced the iPhone; I got a, umm, iPhone. Yes, it is sweet. September 17th I paid a visit to J.T.K., a new restaurant that opened up downtown Lincoln. A few friends of mine happen to work there, although that didn’t influence my first review any. I’ll be going to a wine dinner there Sunday night so expect a proper write-up on Monday. Oh, and by the way, today I got a job bartending there a few nights a week, so there’s that too.

On September 21st I got a kickin’ rad stereo system for the office area of my room. A real classy Phillips 5.1 system that sounds great, looks great, and makes a great addition both for watching video on the iMac and for kicking around in Garage Band. Finally, on Sept 23rd I registered MonkeyTangoFoxtrot.com, basically the best domain name ever. I still don’t know what to do with it, (right now it’s just a blank directory), so send me some ideas. That’s all I got for the past two months, so check ya later bros.

J. Anton Report for July, 2007

Posted on August 9, 2007

Running a little late with this one; forgot about it. Whoops. It’ll be a short one. Anyways, last month was a fun one. On July 5th, the exciting day finally came. I saved enough money (sort of) to purchase my MacBook Pro. Technically I put a portion of that purchase on credit, but that’s almost paid off soonish anyways. The hard part? The almost two weeks of having to wait for it. As it turns out, shortly after I ordered mine, the wait increased too, so I guess I got my order in under the wire.

July 12th-15th I survived the massive member guest golf tournament at work. It’s always a huge pain in the ass, and I’m glad it’s over. ‘Til next year. Made a little bit of cash though. July 17th was the really exciting day though. That was when my MacBook Pro finally came. It’s fantastic to have, and I’m typing this very missive on its aluminum keys. On July 18th, I registered the domain for Badblogs 2.0. I got the site up and running a few days later. Unfortunately I was not able to get the original domain (which, as it turns out, I had built up a lot of Google juice for), stupid domain squatters. But the new one is good too. It feels good to be Badbloggsing again.

On July 30th I tried to install Solaris on a separate partition of the MacBook Pro. However, the damn installer wouldn’t load. So I re-repartitioned, and tried Parallels. And the damn installer wouldn’t load. All of my forays into Linux end the same. Some day… All in all a good month though, may there be many more!

The J. Anton Report for June 2007

Posted on July 2, 2007

It was another banner month around jwiltshire.org so let’s get started shall we? June 4th was an exciting day as I was finally able/remembered to buy a second gig of RAM for the iMac. I can now run Safari and a couple of widgets at the same time. On June 6th, whilst working at a wedding reception, I invented a delicious shot.

Then came June 15th, when I sold my iBook, Marguerite. I had put the laptop up on Craigslist for a month and a half, where I got some interest, but no offers. So I then lowered the price and posted it on Craigslist again. And once again, after a month I got no offers. Then I saw that Facebook added a marketplace. So on a whim I posted the iBook there at my original asking price, and naught but a couple of hours later, my laptop was sold. Score one for Facebook.

June 19th marked the halfway point for getting my MacBook Pro. For those curious, I am now less than $700 away from that goal, or two thirds the way there. And on June 31st, I almost broke down and bought an iPhone, which would set me back on that goal by half. Eyes on the prize.

Let’s hope the coming month is just as exciting, and possibly new-laptop-alicious.

The J. Anton Report for May 2007

Posted on June 4, 2007

May was yet another banner month for Me so let’s get started, shall we?

On May 2nd, I got insurance for the car. All that’s left is to get it registered and plated. It’s good to get that all taken care of. On May 5th, I took my little brother to buy his first guitar. While perusing the rows and rows of guitars, I spotted a relatively inexpensive 12-string guitar. Now, 12-strings are rarely cheap, so finding a good price on this one, there’s was no way I could pass it up. So I bought it.

A week later, on May 11th, made first car payment. $156.78 down, $4,843.22. I’m now a worldly man, knowing the sting of debts and loans and interest. On May 18th, I made a trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo. I wrassled a tapir, chased the monkeys, and fed a chupacabra. All in all, it was a good time. Pictures from the excursion can be seen over at Flickr.

Then there was May 21st… Ah May 21st. I redesigned jwiltshire.org, and I might even consider releasing the K2 style it’s built on. Then came the big thing. Site5, providers of amazing hosting, were running a deal. 110 Gb of storage, 5 Tb of bandwidth, and up to 110 domains for $5.00 a month. What a steal! So I signed up for one, since I have a few domains lying around. The first site I set up on the server Poseidon was Panzerwaffle.org, just a place to point around to the stuff I do on the web. I then set up a little photoblog, aperture.panzerwaffle, because I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for Pixelpost. And finally, after all the dns propogation stuff cleared up, I was able to set up Macfags.com, a domain that I waited almost a year and a half to get ownership of. I’ve got that going, and have even put up a post or two. Sweet life!

The J. Anton Report for April 2007

Posted on May 5, 2007

Well hello all, April was a banner month around here at jwiltshire.org, so let’s get started shall we? At the beginning of the month, I started my first foray into makin’ my own flavors of booze, by infusing whiskey with peaches. I’ve had a nip o’ the whiskey so far, and I can tell ya, it’s gonna taste great! This is just the first step into some day in the future when I’m making my own hooch…

Come April 6th it got really cold here in Nebraska. It was kind of ridiculous because it had been so nice the weeks prior. But so it goes. April 7th marked the day of my second attempt at flavoring alcohol, this time vodka. A little Svedka, some melon, some blackberries, and a hope and a dream. I’m hoping to turn this into a new things. On the day of April 12th I finally got my fisheye lens (check the delaying Leopard until October, but I’ll live.

On April 15th, trouble occured! Whilst driving home from work for a short respite, the engine in the cougar started making horrible, horrible knocking sounds. Imagine someone hammering away at sheet metal. It was bad. Everybody stared. The next day I took it into a mechanic who said that the block was cracked and needed to be replaced. So on April 17th I began car hunting. A week later I purchased a 2001 Ford Taurus. Sweet life! And for most of the month I’ve been racking up hella overtime hours just to pay for it, but I think I’m good now. I need a nap though. The picture above is as of the last day of April, when I looked slightly frightened, and my beard stubble approaches threat level hobo.

The J. Anton Report for March 2007

Posted on April 5, 2007

March was a rollercoaster of a month for J. Anton Wiltshire. The month started out cold and blustery and uneventful. Just a mowin’ through the days. But the end of the month dipped, then picked up. My old 4G iPod had died but was soon replaced with a shiny new 5.5G iPod. My birthday was on the 29th. Sarah made omelettes and cake, which was awesome. I got a little bit o’ money from my parents. I came up with the plan to make my own peach whiskey. Look for a later report for tasting notes. And the last night of the month, at work we had a big redneck birthday party that I bartended. And amazingly, I made a couple hundred bucks in tips. That’s gonna go a long ways towards buying stuff I probably don’t need. And that was my month.
