I Am a Patron of the Arts
Posted on March 23, 2009
A fellow I know through the local internet forum, Bryan Klopping, is about to attend art school, and to fund his ventures, he asked around if anyone would like to commission a painting. I thought about it, and quickly decided upon commissioning a portrait of the photo on the right
this post for details of that night.) We were all very excited about the prospect of the painting. A canvas was quickly procured.
Bryan gave me updates over the next few weeks letting me know the status of the painting, and finally, last Friday, it was finished. I excitedly made my way over to Bryan’s apartment, and was in awe of the beauty held before me.
The painting now hangs in my office at work, that I share with Don. We’re very excited to have it, and the response from around work has been very positive. If you’re interested in having a painting done by Bryan, let me know, and I can hook you up.

GUEST COLUMN: This LAN Party Is Going to Be Awesome
Posted on March 2, 2009
Guest columnist Steve Whitaker — I’m pretty excited brothers, let me tell you why: The annual Hilldale LAN party is this weekend, and mom’s letting me go!
It’s going to be totally rad bros. 36 hours in the middle school auditorium, and no supervision other than the middle school computer teacher and the janitors at night. I’m so excited! It’s going to be me and 50 fellow gamers playing Counterstrike, Unreal Tournament, and even classics like Warcraft 3. And the best part is, I even heard there were going to be some girls playing!
My buddy Jeff said that he overheard Kristi Andersen say she was going to come with some of her friends from the other high school in town and they were going to show us boys what’s what. I doubt that but we’ll see! I can’t wait to play against some of the girls in a couple of matches, instead of when I normally play against girls online but it turns out that it’s really my third period math teacher pretending to be a girl on the internet. Boy was that time embarrassing! But he promised me an A if I don’t tell anyone about it.
I’m going to own some scrubs with my special gaming keyboard that my grandma got me for Christmas. And everybody’s going to be jealous when I change my wallpaper to the picture of the naked elf chick that mom doesn’t know I have hidden in the C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Fax\ folder. But mom’s not going to be there to see it this weekend!
But anyways, other than all the fun we’ll be having gaming, there will also be all the Mountain Dew and Bawls and Monster we can drink, and the middle school computer teacher is going to buy us all pizza the first night, so we’ll have plenty of energy to play! Which is very important, because you have to keep your energy up for when the matches get real intense. Jeff is even going to bring a 12-pack of Mountain Dew Gamer Fuel that he’s been saving ever since they stopped making it, just special for this weekend.
I’m telling you, this weekend is going to rock!
