Supertramp Sunday

Posted on January 27, 2008

It’s been a couple of weeks, so I thought I’d bring listenin’ Sundays back. This week: ’70s prog-group Supertramp. These may get a little repetitive ‘cuz there are only a few Supertramp songs I know (and like) but I scoured the YouTubes for some good stuff.

Here’s a classic video, “Breakfast in America”.

It’s true. You don’t have to be pretty to play prog rock.

This concert, which was the band’s last with vocalist/keyboardist Roger Hodgson, was recorded the same year I was born.

They didn’t get any handsomer in the ’80s. Though it seems kind of appropriate.

Next, howsabout some kids from the Paul Green School of Rock doing “The Logical Song”. C’mon, they were like negative twenty years old when this came out.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty impressed with these kids, they do a really good job of “The Logical Song”. Granted, there isn’t much stage presence there, but they’re only in middle school so I’ll cut ‘em some slack. They also do a really creepy version of uber-crappy Styx song Mr. Roboto.

Not gonna lie to you, here’s a shirtless d-bag lip synching to “Child of Vision”. Let’s call this one for the ladies.

Okay, enough of that, how about a cute girl doing “Breakfast in America” on guitar?

This video has nothing to do with Supertramp. But the song shares it’s title with a Supertramp song. And it makes me glad there are parts of the ’80s I forget.

We’ll end with a mashed-up video of a mashup. “The Logical Song”, Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”, and a tinge of Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me”. Surprisingly well done.

Excellent! Really enjoyed that for a few minutes - the high-school kids are great and the mashup is super-cool… I went to see Roger Hodgson @ Birmingham Symphony Hall last October… your post just cropped-up in a Google Alert for him… and I’m glad it did!

You should do a top ten list for best live albums sometime. I’d be interested in that one.

I don’t think I really have enough live albums to be qualified for something like that. I have however been throwing around the idea of doing a stuck-on-a-deserted-island-what-albums-do-you-take post. Sometime next week I think.

Dag, I really should break out of this once a week schedule.
