Tales… Of… Interest!

Posted on February 23, 2007

Just some neat stuff from around the interwebs and the apartment…

First of all, next month Samsung is going to do something insane. They are going to introduce the first consumer computer display that uses USB instead of a VGA or DVI connection. It’s certainly an interesting idea. Samsung says you will be able to do multiple monitor setups with multiple USB displays without being limited by your graphics card. Less cables, and less types of cables is good, but beyond that, I’m not sure if there’s much more benefits. How much will multiple monitors tax the CPU, and how this will work with video/multimedia editing/gaming will be the deciding factor to whether this idea sinks or swims.

Secondly, I found out that my favorite Brazilian psychedelica band from the late sixties and early seventies have reunited for an American tour (with Zelia Duncan standing in for Rita Lee), and right now there’s a video podcast of interviews and performances (in English) currently running over at American Girl Productions. If you like that kind of music, or any kind of music that’s outside the mainstream, check it out. Those guys are awesome.

Thirdly, I think I might be going remote-retarded. Earlier today I picked up my tv remote, pointed it at my iMac, and expected it to somehow start up Front Row. It didn’t work. Later on I twice picked up my Mac’s Front Row remote, pointed it at the tv, hit “Menu” and waited for the tv to come on. More news as this develops.
