Two Things I Don’t Hate About Windows
Posted on December 30, 2006Yes yes now, we all know Windows pretty much sucks. But there are still some neat features in there that I wish OSX would integrate. And not like “Oh look Vista has brand new features like widgets ‘gadets’ and Aqua ‘Aero’, but just neat little system features all operating systems should have.
1) Built-in FTP. Even if I have to do it in Explorer, it is nice to be able to have FTP without using a third party app (even though I love you Transmit). OSX does have FTP in the Finder, but it’s only one way. I can connect to an FTP server and download, but not upload. An odd lack of feature on Apple’s part.
2) Setting Desktop Pictures. This one’s a niggling complaint, but still, I miss being able to right click on any kind of image file and set it as the desktop picture, without having to open up System Preferences. Granted, it only saves me like a minute’s worth of time, tops, it still rocks.
This was originally supposed to be “Three Things I Don’t Hate About Windows”, but I forgot the third thing, and I don’t feel like going through years of logged iChat conversations with DB to find it, even though OSX integrates the incredibly awesome searchiness that is Spotlight.

Can’t you mount an FTP server as a drive? I know that’s how I do it in ‘nix.
