Single of the Week: Los Mocosos

Posted on September 17, 2006

This week we have a Spanglish treat from barrio rockers Los Mocosos (literally, the Snots) “En El Amor“. It’s a story of a breakup, as told from both sides of the relationship. The lyrics are written in a very interesting style that they underuse on their first album but do use more often in their later records; the song is written in couplets, with the first line telling the story in English, and the second line in Spanish. My only real complaint with the song is the flute solo towards the end. A flute? C’mon. That solo could’ve totally been an electric guitar, and it would have rocked. I know you guys wanna stick to your roots with ’70’s Hispanic rockers like War and El Chicano, but still. Oh, and speaking of War, they do an awesome cover of “Spill the Wine” on the same album.
