An Open Letter to my Neighbors
Posted on March 29, 2006Hello neighbors. How are you doing? I realize we never talk, which is kind of unneighborly of me, but I’m reaching out to you now. Did you know, that wall that you put your nice stereo system up against is a shared wall? In fact, it’s shared with my bedroom wall. The bedroom that I go to sleep in at a decent enough hour every night, whereas you enjoy playing your nice stereo until three, four, sometimes even five in the morning. It sounds like you have an air hockey table in there too. I can often hear you playing in there. Did you know that I enjoy air hockey? Also, it’s very nice that your friends visit you. I understand that it is a long trip up a flight of stairs to get to your door, but really, is sitting out front and honking one’s horn the best way to alert you of one’s presence? It seems to me that with the advent of the cellular age, one could very easily ring you up to let you know, or again, there’s that option of going up to the door. Well neighbor, I’m glad we could have this little chat. Maybe we’ll get to do it again some time.
Joshua

Single of the Week
Posted on March 21, 2006
Well, the party I was supposed to bartend for tonight was cancelled due to the massively massive snowstorm that dumped 14″ of the white stuff on us. (Haha! Bukkake. [Best if you imagine Phil Ken Sebben saying it.) So I’m pretty jazzed about it. (That’s right, I wrote jazzed.) And that is why I’m extra thrilled to bring you this weeks Single of the Week. To present to you, here is Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings with Got a Thing on My Mind. Some early ’70s styled soul ‘n’ funk, one would be hard-pressed to believe that this song was recorded in 2001. Heavily influenced by both James Brown and the Stax sound.
And for those who are curious, I found this track via this blog, which is good too. I found that blog via Blog*Spot’s Wheel o’ Blog Fortune. (Haha! Australians!)

Katamari Goatse-cy
Posted on March 20, 2006
I was playing one of the best games ever the other day, and I noticed this. In the beginning tutorial stage, when you first start the game, when you execute a Look move and go straight up and you’ll find the King of All Cosmos pulling open a big hole in the tiny universe, and peering through. It’s very disturbing if you’ve ever seen Goatse. (Link goes to SFW explanation). I had to grab a picture to show you, and, well, trying to take a picture of a tv screen ain’t the easiest. This is the best one that came out of the bunch. Enjoy.

Friday Random 5
Posted on March 17, 2006It’s back for you again, the Friday Random 5!
- Gogol Bordello – Think Locally, Fuck Globally | Encouraging Gypsy punk from the New York quintet.
- Matisyahu – Beat Box | Matthew Miller’s new album dropped this week, so it’s only fitting that I feature a song off of “Live at Stubbs”. Just some basic beatboxing, but with touches of Nigun mixed in. Good stuff all around.
- Grandaddy – The Saddest Vacant Lot in All the World | In case you found that last song uplifting, here’s some Grandaddy to really bring you down.
- King Chango – Latin Goes Ska | Oh good, some King Chango to bring things back up. This starts out as a disco-y latin tune but quickly transitions into some standard upbeat ska. It has that walking bassline that was popular in mid-nineties ska.
- Outkast – B.O.B. | I can go out on some Outkast. This is a pretty fast track for them, but Andre keeps up well. Heavy metal guitar and a gospel choir throughout, it’s worth checking into.

Teh iMac
Posted on March 16, 2006Yep, the brand new iMac arrived at about 11 this morning. And of course, I got pictures of e’rrything. (They’ll be up in the Flickr too, as soon as I get Flickr Exporter configured.) A couple of notes:
- It’s a lot zippier than the iBook. Granted, that’s a 1.83 GHz core dual processor versus a 933 MHz processor, but still… damn.
- Photoshop isn’t nearly as bad as people have been saying. Granted, if you’re coming off of a spec’d-out G5 it might be, but compared to the iBook, it still loads and runs about 1.5x faster. And I haven’t even gotten an extra 512 Mb stick o’ RAM yet.
- It’s so darn purty.
- The Mighty Mouse kinda sucks. I’ll get used to it though. Or replace it.
- Front Row really kicks ass. Everyone harps on the iTMS videos being QVGA, but, when you’re sitting on the couch watching them on the 1440×990 17″ screen, you really don’t notice any quality problems. Obviously, it doesn’t look as slick as HD or anything, but it’s definitely watchable, and the average person wouldn’t notice anyways.

And now, for no reason, some pictures courtesy of Photobooth:

Snakes on a Plane
Posted on March 16, 2006The iMac is on the FedEx truck, out for delivery. I better get showered, shaved, and make myself look presentable. Don’t want my first Photobooth picture to look bad. Expect pictures tonight, and a full two-day right up on Saturday (Yeah, I don’t work much this week.)

Single of the Week
Posted on March 14, 2006This week, we’re proud to present to you Death from Above 1979, and their song Sexy Results (MSTRKRFT Edition). I first came across this song via Clip Tip who posted a link to the very creepy video for this song (it’s still on the front page as of this posting, so look for it). Anyway, crazy disco-y dance punk. Check it.

Mmmmmm, cake.
Posted on March 12, 2006Back in high school, I had a friend with an offbeat sense of humor. He also had a zest for Zebra Cakes, sometimes eating them by the case, but that’s neither here nor there. Reflecting back on that the other day, I thought of some cakes that I would like to have made (no, not like these). I should shop them around a couple of bakeries and see if I can get them:
- Sorry about your miscarriage
- Congrats on your recent weight loss!
- Way to go! Fourth consecutive abortion!
- Too bad about the diabetes, hope this cake makes you feel better
- Evolution is a theory, not a fact!
- 8 months to live is still plenty of time to finish this cake

iPod For Sale
Posted on March 6, 2006I just got a new iPod w/ video, so now I’ve got an extra 4th gen iPod. It’s a 20 gigabyte model, without the color screen. I bought it a year ago. It works hella good, and I have all the accessories (USB 2.0 cable, Firewire cable, wall adapter, CD/Documentation), however, I don’t have the original earbuds (I don’t know if people would want used earbuds anyways.) I’ve got a pair of Sony buds instead. I’ve also got a case for it that has a removable belt clip and armband, to throw in with it. It’s in great condition, just some light surface scratches from being put in pockets and such. Asking for $125. If you ask nicely, all the songs will be left on it. I will leave it up to you to delete them from the hard disk.
If you’re interested, comment/PM/email away. Makes a great gift!

WORD.
Posted on March 5, 2006After listening to the Journal Star podcast with Brendan and Boz, I have downloaded all the Her Flyaway Manner that is available in iTunes (link opens in said iTunes). And I gotta say, I totally love it. Kind of reminiscent of The Dismembement Plan, 1.6 Band, and other so-called “math rock” bands, but totally awesome. It’s kinda weird, because I sorta know you guys through this site, but unfortunately have not been able to come to a show (yet). So this is good.
Also, sometimes it is very nice to work as a bartender at a country club, because you can get hell of drunk with the weird guy that creeps all the girls at work out, and then do blog posts at Lincoln Blog.
