Apple Rumours

Posted on February 26, 2006

Since Apple rumours are going off the charts for the special event on Tuesday, including: the video iPod, Intel Mac mini, iSight-sportin’ 13-inch widescreen MacBook, Media Cube, “touch finger LCDs,” 17-inch MacBook Pro, Mac tablet and a hi-fi iPod boombox, I figured I’d add to it. I heard that come Tuesday, Steve is going to definitely definitely definitely announce a 256 Mb iPod Shuffle. It will retail for the bargain basement price of $39. That’s it. All that’s coming. Maybe an update for the Airport base station too. But nothin’ else.

So nothing really exciting today, might be tempted with the new Mac MINI if it wasn’t for the pos Intel graphics card it has inside. I think the big announcements will be April 1st, I’m there for my video iPod for reals.

Yeah I figured it would be pretty bland. No surprise. Hella expensive boombox though. I didn’t think that would actually happen. And I heard about the crap graphics card. I’ll just stick to my iMac I’m maybe getting next week :D

wish I could afford an iMac, but I think I am going to pick up one of those Mac MINI dealies to replace my personal PC. Need to check how much of a ‘hardship’ it will be to give up some of the Windoze software but I want to go back to OS X!

No hardship whatsoever. Hehe. I do think it sucks that they raised the price on the Mac Mini. Someone at TUAW.com made a good point that for the dual-core Mac Mini, at 799, you can get an iMac, with more better features, a display, a mouse and a keyboard, for just 400 more. Unless I gets my money today, I will be ordering next week.

Apple are pretty cunning in that marketing strategy. I didn’t fail to notice that if I upgrade the memory and hard drive of the mini then I am not far from the iMac …. I already have a decent 17″ monitor, and want to share keyboard and mouse, so that part doesn’t much matter (though the iMac monitor is so much nicer to look at). I’ll go to the Apple store tomorrow and see what I come out of the door with :)

Dual core Mac Mini and $30 (after rebate) copy/scan/printer. Its so tiny its amazing! No time to set it up right now but will post some kind of writeup over at the blog when I have it settled in.

It’s nuts, I see pictures of the Mac Mini and go “damn, that’s small”, but you really have to see it in person to appreciate how tiny it really is. We at jwiltshire.org can’t wait to see a writeup. Hopefully I will be receiving my 20″ iMac by Friday of this coming week.
