Random Tech Junk, pt 1
Posted on December 28, 2005iPhoto Book | I was at a loss as to what to get my parents for Christmas, until it hit me: I oughtta order an iPhoto Book from Apple, full of my own photography. It was a snap to make within iPhoto, just select the pictures I want and drag them into place. iPhoto tracks whether or not the pictures are the proper resolution, so you can make size adjustments and whatnot at will. It took about 5 days from the time I ordered it until it arrived, so they were pretty speedy about the whole thing. The book is pretty slick, with the photos printed on glossy pages and everything. Except for the cover, which is a glossy page pasted to the hardcover (although nicely so), the whole thing looks like what you might get if you were a real publisher and such. Going to have to keep this in mind for portfolio type stuff.
Wordpress 2.0 | It’s out. The site is running on it. It’s pretty keen. Some hiccups in the interaction between plugins/themes and the installation itself, but everything is being smoothed over. The backend is all nice and Ajaxy (although I still think Ajax is a little hyped up more than it should be, more on that in part 2). Overall it works pretty nicely though. If you run Wordpress on your site, it’s worth it to update.
My Laptop Battery | I’ve been in need of a new laptop battery, and with Christmas money flowing in and such, I figured it was time to get one. My battery, according to the widget on my Dashboard says that my battery is currently at 23% of its original capacity, not bad for a 100 week old laptop. But it’s only good for 45 minutes to an hour. Not that hot. So I placed my order, waited for it to ship, and it arrived today. Except it didn’t. In the box was a copy of Motion 2. Granted, Motion 2 is a pretty sweet animation suite for only $299, but my little iBook doesn’t meet the system requirements. So now I have to go through the exchange process, through the mail, which is a pain in the ass, and I pretty much wasted the money for the expedited shipping now. Hopefully the proper battery will ship quickly. I’ll keep yall posted.
