Fabulous Friday Random 5
Posted on December 30, 2005- The Yardbirds – Over, Under, Sideways, Down | I first heard this classic in a Chevy commercial, of all places, and it’s a great song. The melody moves just as the song title says; it’s a great groove they have.
- Silvio Rodriguez – La Maza | Silvio is one of the greatest singer/songwriters to come out of Cuba, and this song is no exception.
- The Cars – You’re All I’ve Got Tonight | Anybody who cannot like the Cars is a soulless bastard with no respect for pop music.
- The Squirrel Nut Zippers – It Ain’t You | SNZ were kind of a flash-in-the-pan band in the late ’90s Swing Revival, and while most modern swing music sucks, these guys actually had a good thing going, maybe because they didn’t have that douchebag quality that seems to come with most swing revivalists.
- Guitar Wolf – Summertime Blues | I love garage thrash. Turn up the distortion and let the old school licks come out I say.

The Bad Blogs Bad Review Revue
Posted on December 30, 2005Natch, I maintain a little site every now and then called Bad Blogs. Every now and then the cockles get raised a little, but nothing too big. However, the past day there has been quite the cockle storm brewing, including posts all over the interwebs about it. I count five posts in the past day so far, and those are just the ones that I’ve found via the comments section. Of course, I think it’s hilarious that a) people take this shit that seriously and that b) they assume that I do too. One of them even took an opportunity to go through the archives and let about a dozen people know that they were posted. That’s a lot more effort there than I put into Bad Blogs. Anyway, there’s the general comeback that “your blog should be on this site”, a comeback good enough for a six year old, so it’s good enough for me. There were posts saying my site was ugly and I should take some web design classes (from people using out-of-the-box Blogger templates nonetheless, and as an aside, I have in fact taken some web design classes) and general assumptions about my job status, education status, skin health, number of friends, and level of obsession with pornography. But it doesn’t bother me, because ultimately, I don’t care what a bunch of dipshits on the internet say about me. Perhaps they could stand to learn a lesson. Anyway, here’s a list of posts so far.
- Maybe he has no brain. That loser can go on being a lame lowlife and we’ll go on blogging… Aight?
- I can’t believe that I’ve been blogging for two weeks and the “Bad Blog” guy has already found me – I can’t even find my own blog by googling!
- For all we know it’s a 48 year old balding sweat stained fast food employee who never graduated from high school.
- Or better yet, pay someone to add a little life to your extremely shitty site. I’ve seen a 3 year old create better looking stuff with a box of crayons and toilet paper. Sorry bro….Both your lame sites go on the “Ugliest Site” list. Thanks for the traffic though douche!!
- I really am ok with the fact that I am on some pimple faced little bitch boy’s list.
There you have it, lots of fun for all. Friday Random 5 in a few.
Cars that Are Hott
Posted on December 29, 2005
BMW Z4 Coupe | This one won’t be out until next July, but it’s the complete hottness. While the Z4 roadster had a slight awkwardness, this ride is muscular yet graceful, like a jungle cat waiting to kick some ass. More at Automobile Magazine.- Saturn Sky | A badge reengineered version of the Pontiac Solstice, I would argue that the Sky looks better (odd for a Saturn to be the better looking one). Sharper angles in the sheetmetal give it a sexier more industrial look. It’s got a 2.4 liter Ecotec 4-cylinder engine under the hood that makes 170 hp. Rumours are that after the initial launch, a turbocharged 2.2 liter will be made available too. More at Saturn’s website (be forewarned, they’re gonna be dicks about what browser they’re using. It still works just fine in Safari though.)
Dodge Charger | The 2006 Dodge Charger is just mean looking. Granted, there is the debate about it having four doors, but with a 345 hp Hemi under the hood, this remake of the muscle car classic is no mommy sedan. I’d hit it. More at Edmunds.- MINI | After Rover was bought out by BMW, and then sold off while BMW kept the MINI brand, they decided that a complete overhaul was needed. After all, it was basically the same (though awesome) car since the late ’50s. Thus, the new MINI Cooper and Cooper S were born. And with an exciting new refresh in the coming year, it’ll continue to be a small powerful and fun car. More at MINI USA.
- Jeep Wrangler | Granted, when it comes to offroad vehicles, I’m a Land Rover man, however, I have to show mad respect to the long-wheelbase Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. After all, it was the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that was the vehicle of choice for MacGuyver. If it’s good enough for MacGuyver, it’s good enough for me. More at Jeep’s website.
Suzuki LC | Granted, this one is just a concept, and I know, it’s a Suzuki, but still, it’s pretty cool. A tribute to the company’s first car, the Suzulight, this two-door two-seater is 10.5′ long and rocks a 3-cylinder .66 liter engine under the hood. But still, it’s got killer retro styling, like an anime rendition of a classic British car. And those plaid seats look sweet. More info over at Automobile Magazine.

Single of the Week
Posted on December 28, 2005Mmmm, ain’t nothin’ like indie rock interpretation of classic Americana/bluegrass. 16 Horsepower’s Heel on the Shovel. Every song is a strange backwoods fable, telling a twisted tale. This song in particular, with the opening line “I’m diggin’ you a shallow grave” and the chorus “Oh everyone will see/an’ everyone will know/boy you reap what you sow”, you know that someone done somethin’ wrong to get hisself buried. If you’re looking to explore the roots of country music in America, but in a modern context, this album is worth a look.

Random Tech Junk, pt 1
Posted on December 28, 2005iPhoto Book | I was at a loss as to what to get my parents for Christmas, until it hit me: I oughtta order an iPhoto Book from Apple, full of my own photography. It was a snap to make within iPhoto, just select the pictures I want and drag them into place. iPhoto tracks whether or not the pictures are the proper resolution, so you can make size adjustments and whatnot at will. It took about 5 days from the time I ordered it until it arrived, so they were pretty speedy about the whole thing. The book is pretty slick, with the photos printed on glossy pages and everything. Except for the cover, which is a glossy page pasted to the hardcover (although nicely so), the whole thing looks like what you might get if you were a real publisher and such. Going to have to keep this in mind for portfolio type stuff.
Wordpress 2.0 | It’s out. The site is running on it. It’s pretty keen. Some hiccups in the interaction between plugins/themes and the installation itself, but everything is being smoothed over. The backend is all nice and Ajaxy (although I still think Ajax is a little hyped up more than it should be, more on that in part 2). Overall it works pretty nicely though. If you run Wordpress on your site, it’s worth it to update.
My Laptop Battery | I’ve been in need of a new laptop battery, and with Christmas money flowing in and such, I figured it was time to get one. My battery, according to the widget on my Dashboard says that my battery is currently at 23% of its original capacity, not bad for a 100 week old laptop. But it’s only good for 45 minutes to an hour. Not that hot. So I placed my order, waited for it to ship, and it arrived today. Except it didn’t. In the box was a copy of Motion 2. Granted, Motion 2 is a pretty sweet animation suite for only $299, but my little iBook doesn’t meet the system requirements. So now I have to go through the exchange process, through the mail, which is a pain in the ass, and I pretty much wasted the money for the expedited shipping now. Hopefully the proper battery will ship quickly. I’ll keep yall posted.

The Site Has Been Updated
Posted on December 27, 2005To Wordpress 2.0. So if you get any wonkiness, let me know. The theme is stuck at Kubrick until K2 gets properly fixed up, so hang on.
UPDATE: Scratch that, it’s fixed now.
UPDATE 2: I’m working on finding out about the thing with the pictures butting up against the text. And the archives, while still working right, apparently have some kind of styling conflict with K2 or some such nonsense, ‘cuz they ain’t working right. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.
UPDATE 3: After much work, figuring, cups of coffee and packs of cigarettes, pacing back and forth while chewing on a pipe and wearing labcoats and black-rimmed glasses, DB and I came up with a workaround. I’m too lazy to make it retroactive, so it’ll stick to future posts for now.
UPDATE 4: The fellas over at Binary Bonsai are working on a fix for the Live Archives, so that should be fixed soon. Also, I’ve implemented Wasabi’s Related Posts plugin, so when you click on a certain post, it’ll have a list of (possibly) related posts in the sidebar.

News Hottie of the Week
Posted on December 27, 2005
This week, Zain Verjee of CNN International. She anchors, along with some mildly annoying guy, Your World Today, an international news program that CNN throws on in the early afternoon because Wolf Blitzer can’t be pulled out of bed before 11 am. She’s covered a lot of serious events, such as the September 11th attacks, the trial of Slobodan Milosevic (yeah, spellcheck didn’t know what to make of that,) and covers African business news. She’s previously worked for the Kenyan Television Network, and has published her own children’s book loosely based on her childhood.

Ho Ho Ho
Posted on December 25, 2005So, I got a rather cryptic Christmas message last night:
ttlcntrlprint: Hi… I want to show you my Christmas pussy!!
A little confusing yes, so I did some googling, some searching, turns out that it was a dude that sent me that. His name is Christian Macey and he is somehow related to totalcontrolprint.com. So I don’t know what kind of pussy he has to show me or anything, so I messaged him back this morning (he was offline when I got home last night to find his message.) Meanwhile, I im’d with DB.
Josh: so, i got a weird christmas message last night
DB: word?
Josh: yea, i wake up and come to my computer with a message from ttlcntrlprint that says something to the effect of “I want to show you my Christmas pussy!”
Josh: i don’t know who that is
Josh: so i did some googling
Josh: it’s some dude, from the uk
DB: hmmmm
DB: ick?
Josh: yea
…
Josh: ttlcntrlprint guy isn’t responding
DB: dang
DB:: he probably didn’t really have any xmas pussy for you to see then
DB:: liars
DB:: damned internet liars
He still hasn’t responded. I guess I’m missing out on something, but I don’t know.
