Have You Ever Wondered?
Posted on June 28, 2005And I know you want to know: What happened to the cast of Step By Step? I intend to find out….
For those of you who don’t remember, Step By Step was a Brady Bunch-esque show about contractor Frank Lambert, single father to 3 kids, who gets married to Beautician Carol Foster, a single mother to 3 kids of her own. The kids all hate each other, but they have to learn to get along, step by step… Day by day…
Patrick Duffy played Frank Lambert, the swarthy construction worker with a penchant for Suzanne Somers. He hasn’t done much lately, other than a few “Hey, I was on Dallas, remember me?” appearances every now and then.
Suzanne Somers played mother Carol. She doesn’t do much anymore, but for some reason she keeps popping up on various talk shows, according to IMDB. She still hates Joyce DeWitt. She no longer sells exercise tapes, to my knowledge.
Brandon Call portrayed Frank’s son J.T., who I personally thought was kind of a douchebag. He was the scheming smooth-talker type that never quite seemed to get it together. He hasn’t acted since Step By Step. Instead, according to facts gathered from the internet, he runs a couple of businesses, drives a green ‘96 Honda Civic, and was shot in both arms during a robbery in 1996. But he’s better now.
Frank’s daughter Al was played by Alicia Lambert. Al was the tomboy, and played baseball. I remember her often wearing a green baseball shirt, possibly with a yellow hat. She’s really hot now. She still works, althought gazing at her filmography, she only does shitty movies that are possibly ‘erotic thrillers’ and direct-to-video comedies. She is apparently very popular in Italy.
Josh Byrne played the youngest brother, Brendan. I have absolutely no recollection of this character, apparently because he was written out. How you write a child out of a family, I have no idea. He hasn’t acted since. Rumour is he is a bouncer at a crappy karoake bar in Burbank, possibly saying “Don’t you know who I was, man? I was fucking Brendan Lambert! From Step by Step? You’re out of here!”
Staci Keanan played the daughter who I thought was hottest, and I forget her name right now. She was the smart one that was always sarcastic, and sometimes a bitch. She doesn’t do much any more either. Oh yea, she was the little girl on My Two Dads, too. That show that isn’t as gay as it sounds, but may as well be. After all, it was Paul Reiser and Greg Evigan living together. She has a fan page.
Angela Watson was Karen on the show. She was the stupid vain daughter. She’s appeared in one show since Step By Step, apparently a children’s program. Apparently she’s naked somewhere on the internet, but an exhaustive search yielded no results.
Christopher Castile played Mark, the nerdy, slightly effete son of Carol. He was on Hey Arnold, which was a kinda awesome cartoon, I guess. You can find a review of his autobiography, “Being You Is Most Definitely Cool”, here. Apparently, he regularly attends asthma conferences in Aspen.
Finally, Sasha Mitchell was the “cool uncle” of the show, Cody. Aside from having a girly name, he was kicked from the show, mostly because he drank, was a drug addict, and hit his wife. Amazingly, he’s managed to pop up in the occasional movie or tv show, so good on him, I guess. Also, if you go to Charlie’s Cafe in the L.A. Farmer’s Market, he makes awesome eggs and hash. ‘Cuz that’s where he’s presently working, as a short order cook. No word on whether or not he’s “researching a role”.
And that’s it. I hoped you enjoyed. And if you’re a d-list celebrity googling your own name, and you happened upon this page, go ahead and leave a comment to keep us updated.
I can’t believe I wasted a whole afternoon researching this.

Presenting Today: A Robot Recipe
Posted on June 24, 2005Today, we are proud to present to you a recipe for an old classic, hobo mash. Hobo mash is enjoyed by transients and ne’er-do-well rail-riders the world over. And now you can enjoy it too.
The ingredients are easy to find in local gardens and behind restaurants around the garbage cans, or else you can find them pretty cheaply at the super market, if you are so inclined. Here they are, named in relation to the proportion that should go into the mash:

But first, better open a beer.

Chop ‘em, dice ‘em, cut ‘em, season ‘em and such as you would like. Hobos use salt and pepper from Wendy’s, where they give the li’l packets out free. I opted for good ole Lawry’s.

Uh oh, we’re out of beer. Better switch to the hard stuff.

Mix it all up, toss it in a bucket, add some bbq sauce to it (available, again, in free packets at most fast food restaurants) and let it chill for a little bit, preferably covered.

After letting it marinate for a bit, go ahead and find yourself bits of tinfoil. That’s gonna be your cooking container. Wrap the mash up in some foil, and get ready to grill. Feel free to add more seasoning, although easy on the extra sauce, or else it’ll most likely burn up on ya while cooking. Next, you gotta start yourself a fire. Some hobos prefer sticks and wood, for that mesquite flavor, where as other prefer a good old 55 gallon barrel fire. We’ll use a standard charcoal grill.

Let it sit in the fire for awhile, and turn ‘em over occassionally.

Take ‘em out with tongs, let it cool for a minute, and use the tongs to pull it open. Dump it on a plate and add more sauce if you like, serve and enjoy! Mmmmm. Just like Train Jumper Johnnie used to make.

Hot New Reality Show
Posted on June 22, 2005Shelby came up with the idea for it. 10 morbidly obese people (we’re talking a minimum of 500 pounds at beginning weigh-in) live in a ranch-style home with a variety of live-in doctors and nurses. We watch as they live their larger-than-life lives, struggle with weight gain, try to find out which one is the mole, and eat a lot of pizzas. They compete on the specially designed obstacle course to win day passes to Old Country Buffet.

Coming soon to FOX!
Poor Meghan.

Buyolympia.com T-Shirt Review
Posted on June 17, 2005I switched to this new design because Chachi didn’t like the old one. I like this one better anyway. Also, the photoblog has officially moved to my Flickr, just because I like it that way. You can easily get there via the random Flickr photo on the side bar. Labs and Autoblog have been integrated into Robot Shuffle. Badblogs will remain where it is now. On to the review.
The other week, I placed an order from Buy Olympia. Buy Olympia is a small, 2-person organization based in Washington that sells for other designers. The shirt that I ordered was the Futura shirt from Ampersand Clothing Co. They have four designs based on four different fonts: Futura, Helvetica, Garamond, and Chicago. (For all you Windows users, Chicago is an awesome old school Mac font.)

Futura T with Thug Mug
I ordered an XXL because my past experiences with American Apparel tend to shrink down a bit. About 4 days later, the shirt arrived in the mail, complete with a Buyolympia sticker for my fridge. But, a problem! The shirt I recieved was 2 sizes too small. I taped the package shut, wrote “Return to sender” on it, and wrote them an e-mail explaining what had happened. About two days later I got an e-mail back saying that they’d recieved the returned shirt, and they’d happily exchange it for me. The new shirt arrived even faster than the original, after about two days.
The shirt is a very comfortable cotton, a basic tee from American Apparel. I’ve washed the shirt twice now, and as I predicted, it had shrunk down to my actual size. The lettering has faded slightly, but nicely so, as though it were a vintage shirt. I enjoy the shirt, and the design, and despite the mix up with the sizes, they were very polite and I’d recommend checking them out. Especially the “Save the Fork” shirt.

Holy Calamity
Posted on June 10, 2005Upgraded Robot Shuffle again. The site navigation has moved to a static page; if you go up to the top bar and click on “Robot Navigation” you’ll find links to all your favorite Robot Shuffle sites, at least until I can work something better out. I’m still working on it, and there are like 37 files for this theme, so if something breaks, kindly let me know. And before anyone says anything, I didn’t rip it off from Kottke, someone else did. I just gave credit is all. Good day.
My deepest fear is that maybe Jimmy Fallon actually is funny, and it’s all apart of some elaborate joke that I don’t get, as though he’s portraying an unfunny comedian to be ironic. Because really, he sucks.
While leaving school this morning I saw two tiny Asian women pushing a refridgerator on a dolly down a sidewalk. In the pouring rain. Normal people do not do this, usually.
My Photoshop Final
Posted on June 9, 2005For my Photoshop I final, I had to gussy up 10 pictures of my own making. We were supposed to make a slideshow, and of course, I screwed it up. I made it in iMovie instead of using a crappy batch action in Photoshop. But you can look at it. It’s a 10 megabyte .mp4 file, with sound, that you can catch here.

iPod Shuffle Case Review
Posted on June 6, 2005iBought an iPod Shuffle a few months back because I’ve been in the market for a new mp3 player, and one that has .aac support is a definite bonus. However, as time passed by I noticed a few scuffs and scratches on the iPod White finish, so I decided it was time for some kind of covering. I would prefer something similar to the iPod Tattoo, there aren’t many options down that alley unless you like pre-designed and overpriced. So I opted for Apple’s iPod Shuffle Case. The case was $29.99 at your local Circuit Shitty.

The outside of the case is a durable transparent plastic with an orange liner. It has an (ugly) orange and white lanyard attached that is not removable. The case is very nice itself, and the Shuffle sits inside snuggly. However, the hole for the out cable is fitted for the tiny Apple earbuds; users of an auxillary line or 3rd-party headphones will have to use the included adapter to plug in. It locks shut but is easy to open and shut. The case uses a rubber overlay for the buttons, so tapping the button works accurately.

My only big complaint other than the premium price is the lack of any sort of hole for the power switch. In order to turn the Shuffle on or off you have to open the case and pull it out in order to do so. It seems to me that a power bar shaped hole would be appropriate here, however it’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a Dremel. I appreciate the Shuffle case as it does an awesome job protecting, but I’d still be happy with my own designable, printable Shuffle Tattoos. Someone please make these.
