Ack!

Posted on May 13, 2005

We had a torrential rainfall this afternoon. Streets flooded, avenues close, the whole bit. While in the basement bathroom showering, I noticed water coming from the spot where our wall meets the ground. Right near the ginormous stress crack that runs the whole height of the wall. Crap. I did my best to clean it up, and then went off to work. Shelby called the landlord, who sent in the repairman, who examined the wall. Apparently, the part where the wall meets the floor, isn’t supposed to have an overhang. I thought it was. And water is filling into the wall, welling up in the hollows of the cinder block, and floods. The south wall of the house is off of its base by about an inch and a half. No bueno. The handyman says that all we can do is clean out the gutters to keep the water from flooding down the side of the house, but the only way to really fix it involves demolishing half of the house. Shelby and I agreed not to still be living here in a year.

Diagram 1a. Area where water leaks out. Notice the difference in space between the wall and the floor, as noted by the red arrows.

Diagram 1b. A close up of the overhang of the wall.

ACK! dude, it looks like your house is going to actually fall off the foundation altogether. this might just be my advanced years speaking, but I’m pretty sure that would be bad.

That’s what the Robot Shuffle board in the Quorum is for (halfways, anyways.) Remember kids, use it, before it uses you!

I’m wondering, since I’m still seeing this post, if the house has yet to be repaired or if Josh has taken any more pictures with his spiffy camera or if he told the new cute red head at work I said hey or if anyone has seen my newest posts over at the quorum.

I did indeed use it before it used me :)
